We are always eager to hear from anyone who might be interested in volunteering with us as a befriender so that even
more families can benefit from our service. Our volunteers do not need to have experience working with children and families
but we do ask that they:
- Can spare 2 -3 hours a week
- Are reliable
- Are caring and non judgemental
- Are good listeners
- Are able to maintain confidentiality
- Have some understanding of the ups and downs of family life
As well as the satisfaction of helping someone in a time of need all Home Link volunteers receive:
- Out of pocket expenses (e.g. travel, childcare, both whilst volunteering and for training)
- Continuous support and supervision from a project worker
- Careers guidance, personal development and opportunities for further training if desired
- A reference after 6 months of volunteering with us
- Invites to organised social events
Ways in which you might help support a family include:
- Providing a listening ear
- Letting a parent discuss any problems in confidence
- Helping a family find its feet in a new area
- Helping a family get out and about
- Giving a parent practical help with the children e.g. at meal times
- Helping a parent find out about other local services
- Spending time with children to give a parent a break
Families all have different needs and project workers will do their best to find you a role that meets your interests.
