Our induction training for Befrienders runs 3 times a year. Courses run either on three consecutive Saturdays or over six weekday evenings and take place either in Edinburgh or Midlothian. Travel and child care expenses can be claimed for attendance at induction training. Please go to Forthcoming Events for exact dates and venues.

- Building Relationships
- Attitudes and Values
- The Role of a Befriender
- Listening & Communication Skills
- Boundaries and Confidentiality
- Policies and Guidelines
- Personal Safety
- Child Protection
In addition, all Befrienders are invited to other training events which Home Link organises throughout the year in conjunction with other voluntary organisations working with children and families in Edinburgh. Examples of training events run recently include:
- Deaf and Hard-of Hearing Awareness
- Children living with Domestic Abuse
- ADHD
- Children living in a Drug-Abusing Environment
- Children and Young People who Self-harm.....the reasons why

Training and Personal Development for Befrienders
Whether you're just starting out or have worked for more years than you can remember, new skills and experience aren't always easy to come by. Volunteering as a Befriender is an excellent way to:
' Use and improve your existing people skills
' Receive training in, as well as the opportunity to develop, communication and listening skills
' Challenge yourself
' Meet new people from different backgrounds
